Doesnt amplify voices, only sounds close to mike

Im deleting this app, because it doesnt help me hear the TV at all. It only seems to amplify sounds like my hand brushing the iPhone, or my typing as Im writing this a few inches from the iPhone mike.
I tried it with two different sets of headphones, and neither one worked. Changing the settings just seemed to amplify the static.
